kidney doner needed

My cousin Kristen is in NEED of  kindney transplant...really really badly!  Here is a post that my cousin Laura posted exlpaining it all. (@ Kirsten Details)

Kidney donor needed for Sweet Kristen

A while back I announced that my sister in law Kristen was in need of a kidney donor. Since that time she has had a lot of ups and downs. They found a donor! It was awesome. A cute girl from her work matched her and was willing to give her kidney to save Kristen's life. Before they could have the transplant Kristen needed to get rid of her two bad kidneys, go on dialysis, and then prepare to get the new kidney. Unfortunately this process led to Kristen having a bunch of blood transfusions. The surgery to take out her kidneys was one of the hardest the doctor had ever done. Kristen lost a ton of blood. Getting a blood transfusion isn't great for a person who needs to match a kidney to someone else. The process changed her antibodies in her blood. Usually that is only for a short time, but it has made it so Kristen is no longer a match to her donor. Not only that, her blood has become "unusual" and it will be hard to find a donor. She is in need of help. She has dialysis three times a week. It is exhausting and taking everything out of her. She has four young kids at home. She needs a new kidney as soon as possible, but she is back to looking for a donor. I know these four faces would be forever appreciative if you or someone you know could be the one to save her life.

If you want to try and donate:

1. Talk to your friends and family and pray about your

decision. This is a personal decision and I do not want to

pressure anyone to do this. It needs to feel right to you.

2. Call Barb Middlemiss (a transplant coordinator) at

801-879-2318. She will have to ask you a few questions to

even seeif you are eligible.

3. Barb will set you up to get your blood tested.

4. After a donor matches Kristen's blood and antigens then

they are tested to see if their kidneys are at optimal levels for

the transplant. This is another simple test of blood work and

a 24 hour pee sample.

5. Surgery will be scheduled for you and Kristen.

**Everything is and will be paid for by Kristen's insurance, but
you have to go through her coordinator for this. If you ever
considered something like this please think more about it and
see if you could be the one to save her life.

I called to see if I qualified to be a doner but they need  someone with "O" blood. I know that this is a lot to ask of you... but I ask that you please pass this along to anyone who might feel inclined to be tested as a match.  She doesn't think that she has much time...it's just so sad!

  1. Thanks Katie. I thought it was 0 blood. That is good to know. Ben hasn't been tested because he didn't see how he could make it work with his residency and he was an A blood. I hope she finds another donor soon. Yesterday was a really bad day for her again. She had to go in for surgery and then do dialysis. Did your mom ever need a kidney or is she okay?
