Grandma Barker - May 3, 1998

I love the time we spent together
although it wasn't much
I'll always remember grandpa Barker
cussin' at those "Damn Cats!"
I remember those obnoxious birds
and those big, big trees
We'd go explore the country
and pick all kinds of things
I could always look forward
to every birthday card you'd send
They would come without fail
it was a consistent trend
You always amazed me when you'd
remember all our names
It was a special gift God gave you
You loved us all the same
I know you'll be with us
watching us form above
you and Grandpa will
guide us with your love
Tell Mandi we miss her
and Grandpa Hanna the same
We know you'll be happy
because that is Jesus' claim
We'll miss you a lot
I love you Grandma
I always will.
**I just found a bunch of my poems and short stories from junior high/high school. Some of them are really funny and touching, to me. I decided that I am going to post some of them.
This poem is about my Great Grandma, Edith Barker. She lived in Emery County her whole life and was the cutest lady ever! She married my great grandpa when she was 15 and he was 30!! They have quite the story.
She would send all of us a birthday card with $1 in it, it was something I looked forward to every year! It wasn't until her funeral that I learned that she has like 80 great grand children. ( That's the number that I remember, I'll have to check on that) Regardless of the number, I'll never forget how that made me feel. As a 15 year old girl, struggling with life lessons I really felt loved by my family members, and realized the importance of families at that moment.

  1. Wow, I am glad that those experiences were able to help you grow closer to God and not drift away. I, strangely, have never had anyone too close to me pass away. The closest person I have lost is my parents neighbor. She was like my 3rd grandma to me...however still not family. I have always wondered how I will handle it when someone that has always been part of my life on this earth is no longer here to see, visit, and talk with. Thanks for sharing!
