~~UPDATED POST~~
Wikepedia describes Dyshidrotic Eczema as a skin condition that is characterized by small blisters on the hands or feet. It is an acute, chronic, or recurrent dermatitis of the fingers, palms, and soles, characterized by a sudden onset of many deep-seated pruritic, clear vesicles; later, scaling, fissures and lichification (skin thickening) occur. Recurrence is common and for many can be chronic. Incidence/Prevalence is said to be 20/100,000 in the US. This condition is not contagious to others, but due to its unsightly nature can cause significant distress in regards to social interactions with others.
This what I have been diagnosed with. And it sucks. It's ugly and uncomfortable and annoying, but I'm/we're learning to live with it. Right now my hands look and feel better than they have in 4 weeks. I have had a hard time living my life for the past 4 weeks and am so thankful for all of the help I've been given. And there are a few people that I want to give a shout out too...Thank you mom for coming over and cleaning my bathrooms/kitchen. Thank you Travis for washing my hair, bathing the kids, opening any jar and doing the dishes. Thank goodness he works from home or Jami, I'd be at your house multiple times a day. ha ha Thank you to my mouth/teeth for opening things like water bottles and soda cans.
While Trav and I were at my friend Melissa's wedding Erin and I decided that I had "Sad Hands" and the name has stuck since then. They are sad because they won't be able to go to Flaming George, since water and heat make things much worse. We are very sad about not being able to go, well Audrey and I are, Trav is fine. I'll never understand why e doesn't LOVE it like I do....
I have had to quit work for the past month, and although I am enjoying not working, I do not like the the circumstances surrounding it. I am open to any ideas, names of doctors, any holistic remedies...anything!! Please feel free to pass along any words of wisdom!!
Hi Katie
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your diagnoses, sure hope your doing better! Thank goodness for moms that can help!
:( I am sad for your hands too Katie! At least you are gorgeous so people will just stare at your face instead!
ReplyDeleteThis post makes me so sad! I feel so bad for your sad hands. And I am here any time of day to open a jar for you... even to clean your bathrooms or do your dishes. You have such a great attitude about it all. Never do I see you without a smile on your face. I adore you!
ReplyDeleteI just thought of something funny. Now that Michael Jackson has passed, people will think that you are wearing your white glove(s) in honor of him. Perfect decoy!
ReplyDeletei heard that taking a bath with a small amount of bleach can help. its doesn't actually treat the condition but it prevents secondary infections. maybe ask your doc.
ReplyDeleteWhat???? I can't believe that. I am so sorry. Will it ever get better? I guess I have to go back and read the post again. What a pain. Hang in there. I'll be thinking of you. (I haven't had a massage in months). Now it looks like I won't get one either!
ReplyDeleteO katie this is horrible, but I am glad that they were able to finally put a name on your symptoms... I hope that you recover enough to go back to work, my back misses our trades ha ha!! I will still do your hair while you are out though, just leave a message when you calL!!
